Bradford Shotokan Academy is a member of the EKA, a small, but friendly karate association based in England. The EKA is also a proud member of the WKC World Karate Confederation.

What is Karate?

Karate is a martial art, sport and system of self defence originating from Okinawa in Japan and introduced to the Japanese mainland by Gichin Funakoshi the founder of Shotokan Karate.

Shotokan Karate

Shotokan Karate is the style of karate we practice. Training is divided into three main areas: Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring). Shotokan emphasises speed, power and control.

Club History

Bradford Shotokan Academy has a formidable history. Established in the early 80s by Sensei Francis Fawcett and a group of like minded karateka. The club aimed to train hard with high standards of karate.
